Today, Ivan Thomas, founder of DETV, and Tommy AbelHalligan Bar, announced an exciting new partnership to bring attention and funding to grassroots, non-profit organizations in the Delaware community.  The partnership, operating under the #WeAreLove brand developed by Mr. Thomas will create a monthly series of media and fundraising events benefiting local non-profits. “The objective is to identify those organizations doing great things in our community, but are too small to either create the attention they deserve or raise the funds they need,” says Mr. Abel.  “Ivan’s media platform at DETV is the perfect place to tell these incredible stories.  And Halligan Bar gives us a great venue to bring the community together, increase awareness, and raise some money,” he continues.  The unique partnership, between a media platform and venue, aims not only to bring the community together through the celebration of philanthropy, but to inspire others to act as well.  By highlighting the contributions of even the smallest of organizations, Thomas and Abel hope to show others that no amount of effort is too small.

  • Bring well deserved attention to organizations doing great work
  • Provide groups with access to a professional media platform to amplify their voice
  • Provide a meaningful fundraising opportunity to the organization
  • Bring People together to celebrate positive accomplishments and build momentum
  • Nurture the seeds of greatness by inspiring volunteerism and philanthropy
  • Build bridges and connect people from all walks of life

The concept has resonated at all levels of government, receiving conceptual support from the City of Wilmington, New Castle County, and the State of Delaware.

The first event, to be held on Thursday, August 17th from 5:30 to 7:30pm will feature elected officials and senior staff members from the City, County, and State serving as Guest Hosts. There will also be food trucks, raffles, prizes, and live music.  The suggested donation to attend the event is $20.  In addition to money collected at the door, all tips and raffle proceeds will go the the featured organization,Silk League. Silk League is a mentoring program that targets at risk youth on Wilmington’s East Side through basketball.  Silk League provides productive options and rolemodels to kids in need.  The organization’s mission statement reads, “Empowering youth through basketball.”  Historically, the organization has been funded through “out-of-pocket” contributions by staff.
