Delaware State University Receives New Airplanes

Written By Tony Allen

Today we revealed the first of our 11 new aircraft in a ceremony that will be remembered as the beginning of another exceptional era for our world class aviation program — a program that produces more pilots of color than anywhere else in the nation. They were a lot of people to thank: Representative Debra Heffernan and Senator Dave Sokola who chaired the Delaware Higher Education Economic Development Committee and provided $3.4MM to replacing our fleet; Representative Stephanie T. Bolden, class of 1969 who is an uncompromising supporter of our institution; the Aviation Council — chaired by United Airlines Captain CJ Charlton, class of 1993 — made up of Alumni who have helped us “dream big dreams”; our passionate program director, Lt. Colonel Michael Hales; the founder of our program, Dr. Daniel Coons; and many more. But when the pictures were taken, I made sure to get one with this man, a decorated Tuskegee Airman and Delaware State Alumnus, class of 1950, Mr. Nathan Thomas. Brother Thomas, it is our distinct privilege to honor you and those that your very example represents. Thank you for your service and for your profound commitment to your country and to your community. https://lnkd.in/ds7MzMT
