NEWARK, DE – December 9, 2015, – Following the lost on Saturday night to the Sioux Falls Skyforce the 87ers returned home Wednesday to face the 7-3 Fort Wayne Mad Ants, December 9th. Kilpatrick, Wood and McRae combined for 89 points in a Triple over time thriller in front of an estimated crowd of 1,853 including local students from various schools who were in attendance for the 87ers annual education day.
Fort Wayne (7-4) was led by Syracuse alums CJ Fair and Rakeem Christmas who each scored 25 points. Fort Wayne Mad Ants Forward Rakeem Christmas also grabbed 10 rebounds. Center Shayne Whittington added 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Walter Lemon Jr. contributed 20 points off the bench.
Mad Ants Guard CJ Fair scored 13 of his 25 points in the second half including a stupendous 3 pointer to tie the game at 106 with 00.4 left on the clock helping to send the game into overtime.
Delaware 87ers Guard Sean Kilpatrick came off the bench entering the game as the sevens were trailing by 3 points, Kilpatrick hit a three and on the next possession, Sean drove to the basket for two getting fouled in the process while giving the sevens a 5-3 lead early on in the first quarter, the teams ended the opening period tied at 29.
In the second quarter, the Mad Ants Guard Xavier Thames hits a big 3 point shot to give Fort Wayne a 44-43 lead with 4:02 left the Mad Ants CJ Fair scored 13 points, while Walter Lemon Jr added 10 points on their way to a 56-50 advantage going into halftime.
Kilpatrick scored 13 points in the third quarter, shooting a perfect three-of-three from deep, which gave the 87ers a 79-78 lead going into the fourth quarter. Philadelphia 76ers assignee Christian Wood was clutch during the three overtime periods, knocking down all the shots he took adding 10 points, a team-high during the overtime periods.
In the third over time period after a short time out with 01:06 left on the clock Kilpatrick gets the ball and attempts Fadeaway Jump Shot and was fouled by Christmas as the ball left his hands, Kilpatrick tied the game at 122 with 01:06 left on the clock, McRae, wood and Talton would score the last points of game for Delaware.
The 87ers next game will hit the road for their next game, on Saturday, December 12th, vs. the Westchester Knicks at 1:00 p.m. Fort Wayne’s next game will be at home vs. the Iowa Energy on Saturday, December 12th at 7:30 p.m.
