To Our University Community,

Measures to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) are continuing to build across the United States and around the world. We continue to evolve our efforts at the University as well, and remain committed to acting decisively to ensure the safety of our employees, students, and their families. Today, we are announcing the following changes:

The University will go to a remote working environment.
The Executive Leadership Team has been in contact with all their teams over the past 24 hours to determine which employees need to be on campus. For those working remotely, you should access this link for specific information about how to log in. As a reminder, the University has suspended all travel, and travel cards are being deactivated. Additionally, except for research-related expenses, purchase cards will be deactivated as well.

Food Cites

The University will be closed to the public indefinitely.
Effective immediately, the University will be closed to the public. This includes all Delaware State University properties in our New Castle County, Kent County and Sussex County locations. At this time, the Laboratory School (day care) will remain open, operating under guidelines provided by the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services.

Pay for student and part-time workers
The University will continue to pay all part-time employees and student workers who are working remotely. For student workers there will be specific requirements outlined tomorrow by Student Affairs and sent to all students who are currently part of a Federal, State or institutional Work-Study program. A communication will be sent from Human Resources tomorrow to all part-time workers.

University Forum
There will be a University-wide Forum, conducted remotely via WebEx, at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. The forum will be wholly focused on the COVID-19 situation. Register to attend by visiting this link; the event number is 733 188 676; the event password is dsu1891.

Students
We have also been deliberate in supporting our students who remain on campus, to include ensuring access to food, mail, medical care, and other necessities. For those off-campus, please remember that our protocols are meant to protect you and your classmates. Should you need additional support navigating the University while at home, please contact Dr. Downing and her team via email. When you log onto Blackboard on Wednesday, you will receive information from your instructors regarding how best to proceed with each of your courses.

As the situation changes, we will continue to communicate any necessary modifications to our protocols. Be sure to check the University’s COVID-19 landing page on a daily basis, including our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section, and pay close attention to any emails from the University. For COVID-19 updates from the State of Delaware, be sure to watch the virtual town hall with Governor Carney and the Secretary of the Division of Health and Social Services tonight at 6:30 p.m.

I want to add a special note of thanks to our alumni for your continued support and prayers during this very difficult time. Many of you have asked how you can help students during this challenging time. One very effective way to do that is by donating to the University Food Pantry through the University Foundation.


Local Lyrical Science Teacher Moves Class OnLine During COVID-19 SCHOOL CLOSINGS

We have almost 200 students who remain on campus. While we are providing them with regular meals via our Village Café, we want to be sure they are well taken care of during this period. Our food pantry has been open since 2015 and is available to all students throughout the year. If any student is experiencing a food insecurity while the University is closed, please visit DSU_FoodPantry on Instagram for additional information regarding picking up food items.

Watching our administrators, faculty, and staff mobilize during this crisis has been humbling, but much more work remains to do. We are counting on your continued support.
