The Music Industry Is About To Change
By: Tye Richmond
We are seeing a slight shift in music right in front of our eyes. Sometimes it takes a while for people to catch on to the way new music sounds.
For example, T Pain with auto tune. At first, not a lot of people liked the auto tune sound. Jay-Z even made a song called Death Of Autotune that was basically a “diss track” about the sound of autotune. Now for the most part every song you hear has some sort of auto in it.
Now in 2022, there is a new sound that has taken the world by storm. That sound is dance, club, and or house music. Drake’s newest album “Honestly, Nevermind” is the biggest streaming dance album of all time and has created a lot of buzz in the music industry. Some people don’t like the sound, but others thoroughly enjoy it.
Personally, I enjoyed the album because I grew up listening to that sound. I grew up listening to Baltimore Club music, Philly Club music, and Jersey Club music. So, I completely understand the sound and what Drake was doing. In my opinion, Drake’s album was just ok, it wasn’t a masterpiece, but the album was still good and hit different.
After Drake released his album, Beyonce released a single called “Break My Soul” which is a dance song as well. So, if the two biggest artists in the world are both doing dance records, then I think everyone will follow suit and you will see a shift in music for the foreseeable future.
It’s been coming for a long time as you can see on social media and especially TikTok. Most of the hit or trending TikTok songs and sounds are dance/club songs. While listening to Drake’s album and Beyonce’s song, I can imagine people on TikTok dancing and making videos.
I think we are about to witness a change in music. More artists may be willing to try a dance record, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you hear more dance hits this coming summer and fall.
