CLASSES RESUME AT DSU AFTER WEEKEND SHOOTING
Classes resumed for students at Delaware State University today, after a weekend shooting that took the life of an 18 year old Wilmington woman.
Camay Mitchell DaSilva died as a result of a gunshot to the the upper body, an apparent bystander early Sunday morning when a fight broke out in the dorms. DaSilva was not involved in the altercation, said police.
DaSilva was not a registered student of the university and was visiting the campus. No other injuries were reported.
The campus was open on monday but classes were canceled. University officials made counseling services available to the community.
University officials held a virtual forum for students, staff, faculty and parents on Tuesday to share resources available to the community. More than 600 people tuned in for the call.
University police and the dover police department are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call 302-736-7130. Calls can remain anonymous.
