July 4th is coming up, and I think It’s time for me to do what I do best and that is to make a list. But before I do that lets dive into the history of the Fourth of July. So according to History.com ,”The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution.
On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues. The Fourth of July 2022 is on Monday, July 4, 2022.”
So, in honor of Fourth of July coming up I am going to list my top 3 Fourth Of July movies.
Number 3 “The Sandlot” (1993) according to an ocolly.com article it says, “Following a group of kids in the summer of 1962, ‘The Sandlot’ is a timeless classic that is filled with comedy, wonder, and America’s favorite pastime: baseball.
While “The Sandlot” is technically a baseball movie on paper, it is so much more as it tells a heartwarming and entertaining story of friendship as these kids bond not just over the sport of baseball, but also over various other experiences around the sandlot and the town. With hilarious scenes at the pool, summer baseball and even a segment dedicated to the Fourth of July, ‘The Sandlot’ is a great movie to watch during the summer and specifically this holiday.
My second favorite movie is Rocky IV, “The Rocky franchise is one of the best sets of sports films of all time and a personal favorite for me, but the fourth installment of the franchise certainly takes the cake as the most “American” of the series. An extremely campy boxing drama, “Rocky IV” has many flaws, but still manages to be an absolute blast to watch every time.
“Rocky IV” is pretty much the film industry putting The Cold War into a boxing match between Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren and it is just silly enough to work. With the usual training montages, great fights and pulling of the heartstrings, “Rocky IV” keeps the franchises staples, but throws a heavy USA tint on the film.” Plus, the movies ties into Creed 2 which is a great movie as well.
Last but not least my favorite Fourth of July movie is Independence Day,” Aliens attacking Earth and trying to invade on the Fourth of July while the only way to beat them is through the pure will of the American people? Sign me up.
One of the most iconic sci-fi films of all time, “Independence Day” is one of those movies that will make you want to stand up and cheer from the sheer exhilaration it brings about. A story with romance, comedy and action with some Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith shenanigans thrown into the mix, “Independence Day” is a treat to watch and the epitome of what a blockbuster movie is.”
Happy Fourth of July, yall.
