Delaware Waterways & Bridges To Get A Huge Improvement
Mega investments are coming to our state this year, as the United States Army Corps of Engineers plans to invest 15-point- five million dollars on Delaware’s ports and waterways.
The historic funding was made possible due to the infrastructure investment and jobs act signed into law last November. The purpose to strengthen operations… make much needed improvements and repairs for current infrastructure. In this fiscal year, 51 million dollars will be divided among 4 major water infrastructure projects.
Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars will go towards the harbor refuge lighthouse at the Delaware bay….43 point 8 million dollars will be spent to finish construction on the Indian river inlet… 3.2 million dollars will be allotted for the replacement of contaminated waterway infrastructure and making improvements between the Delaware river and the Chesapeake bay… lastly 3.8 million dollars will go towards completing maintenance along the waterway from Rehoboth bay to the Delaware bay.
Bridges in Delaware are also in for a makeover now that 45 million dollars in federal funding is on its way to the diamond state.
The bridge formula program represents the largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system. Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester voted in favor of the bi-partisan measure. She says repairing bridges across the state will not only make them safer, but will help grow the economy by creating jobs and making it easier to move commerce.
