CARNEY TO NOMINATE LONGTIME HOUSING AUTHORITY STAFFER AS DIRECTOR

Gov John Carney announced today he will nominate a long-time state housing authority administrator to lead the department.

Cynthia Karnai has been with the agency for nearly two decades and currently serves as the department’s deputy director. She will serve as acting director beginning next month when current director Eugen Young will step down. Young, who served as the agency’s leader since 2021, announced last week he was leaving the department.

Prior to being named deputy director in 2022, Karnai served as chief operating officer, and director of housing finance.

Her work has focused on promoting home ownership. She launched programs to revitalize the Delaware’s housing market, including emergency foreclosure assistance for senior citizens, low rate mortgage for new construction and veterans and launched the first time home buyer federal tax credit in Delaware.

Karnai’s nomination must be approved by the Delaware state senate.
