Delaware Blue Hens Defeats Navy 14-7

The Delaware Blue Hens are off to a hot start this football season. Delaware beat Navy 14-7 on Saturday to give Ryan Carty a win in his debut as the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ coach.

This was Delaware’s first win over an FBS team and Navy’s first loss to an FCS team since the Blue Hens beat the Midshipmen (Navy) in 2007.

According to WDEL.com “Navy, which lost five fumbles all of last season, had three in the first half against Delaware. On Navy’s first play from scrimmage. Tai Lavatai fumbled and Delaware converted with Henderson’s 6-yard score to Bryce De Maille. Coming at 14:38, it was the quickest Delaware touchdown versus an FBS opponent since 2015.”

A final Navy drive ended at the Delaware 9 on a fourth-down incomplete pass into the end zone.

Henderson was 20-of-32 passing with 189 yards. Navy didn’t have a player with 100 yards offense though it outgained Delaware 329-292. The Blue Hens had just 13 yards rushing.

Delaware won a sloppy game but in sports a win is a win and you’ll take it. Next up on Delaware’s schedule is there in state rival Delaware State University in there “Route 1 Rivalry Game”. The Blue Hens are 10-0 against the Hornets the last meeting in 2021 the Blue Hens won 34-14.

The game is this Saturday September 10th a 6pm at Delaware Stadium in Newark.
