Federal Cuts Lead to Food Shortages at Delaware Food Bank
The Food Bank of Delaware announced Tuesday that it will face a shortage of 900,000 meals due to the federal government canceling all scheduled deliveries. This decision, part of former President Donald Trump’s recent food aid cuts, halts 19 truckloads from the USDA’s Emergency Food Assistance Program. The canceled shipments accounted for over 25% of the food bank’s anticipated supplies for the year.
Cathy Kanefsky, President and CEO of the Food Bank of Delaware, voiced concerns about the impact on food-insecure Delawareans. With rising food prices further straining resources, the loss of federal support is expected to make it even more difficult to meet the growing demand for assistance.
