I-95 Speed Cameras Have Begun To Issue Tickets
If you have been driving on I-95 in Wilmington, you may have noticed people driving slower than usual.
That is because DELDOT announced that the speed enforcement cameras that were activated in January will begin issuing actual citations that began on Monday, April 18, 2022.
There is a 12 m.p.h. speed buffer, but anyone caught going faster than 57 m.p.h. in the 45 m.p.h. work zone will be issued a ticket of at least $74.50 when the fine is combined with various fees.
According to a 6ABC article, “To date, more than 24,000 warnings have been issued, and there has been a 10% reduction in speeds on average through the work zone since the program began in January.

Officials said crashes in the work zone have decreased by almost 37% compared to the same time period last year.”
DELDOT”s C.R. McLeod said “Because of the one-lane configuration, everything grinds to a halt, and that really snarls traffic when that happens. The fewer crashes that are happening, traffic is able to keep moving, and that is our ultimate goal.”
The cameras have been kept in the same place over the first three months, but McLeod said they do have the option to move them around.
Personally, I haven’t taken I-95 that often ever since the road work started. I have taken I-495 there are more lanes instead of the one or two lanes that are on I-95. Also, there isn’t that much traffic on I-495 compared to the I-95. So, people if you want to beat the traffic and not worry about speeding camera take I-495. But at the end of the day just make sure you stay safe while driving
