It’s National Card Playing Day!!
Today is December 28th which is National Card Playing Day encourages us to invite our friends to deal out a hand and play a game or two.
Here’s a little history on National Card Playing Day from nationaldaycalender.com, “In the 9th century, the Chinese began developing games using money and other paper objects. These early playing cards bear no resemblance to the sturdier European playing cards that emerged a few centuries later.”
“Card games spread around the world in a variety of shapes and styles. From the elaborate Mamluk designs of Egypt to the appearance of the first playing cards during the Early Renaissance in Europe, the decks were divided into four suits of coins, cups, swords, and sticks or batons.”
Some of the top card games include Spades, Poker, Solitaire, Spite and Malice, Hearts, Spoons, Gin Rummy, Ridge, Black Jack, and Texas Hold’em. Of course, there are thousands of card games, some of which are regional favorites.
My favorite game that includes playing cards is Mafia there are a bunch of different ways that people play the game. But me personally I enjoy the way that the “Beta Squad” plays Mafia. Where there are 2 King cards in a pile mixed in with random cards. Then everybody picks up the cards the two people with the kings are Mafia while everybody else are the civilians.
Each round for about 2-3 minutes the entire group discusses who they believe it could be. At the end of the round everybody votes who they thing it could be the person with the most votes gets eliminated and reveals their card. The game is over until their are more Mafia members than there are civilians.
