It Was A Great Day In Philadelphia Sports History
Yesterday could have been the worst day in Philly sports history or the one of the best. The whole entire Philadelphia area gave a huge sigh of relief after the Philadelphia Phillies finished off a 4-game sweep against the Colorado Rockies. The Sixers finally finished off the Toronto Raptors in a blowout victory 132-97.
Then the nightcap was the Howie Roseman & the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles drafted a foundational defender in Georgia lineman Jordan Davis and traded for one of the NFL’s best young wideouts in A.J. Brown to emerge as one of Thursday night’s biggest winners.
The Phillies are red hot right now at a great time as they go into a series with the New York Mets. The Phillies are currently 4 games back of the Mets. Even though the series is early in the year, this will be a good test to see where the new-look Phillies are at and how they stack up.
Now on to the Sixers, all Sixers fans were nervous or pulling their hairs at the thought of them being the first team to blow a 3-0 lead. But it looks like we don’t have to worry about that at all.
After an even and highly competitive first half, the Sixers broke things open in the middle of the third quarter with a 22-3 run that included a four-minute scoreless stretch for the Raptors. The game was not competitive the rest of the way, as the Sixers cruised to a 35-point win. Joel Embiid led the way with 33 points and 10 rebounds, while James Harden registered 22 points and 15 assists in the type of performance, they were hoping for from him all along. The Sixers shot 58 percent from the field, and all five starters scored in double figures.
The Sixers now move on and face the tough No.1 seed Miami Heat team in the second round.
Last but not least the Philadelphia Eagles, according to TheRinger.com “The Eagles moved up two spots to snag Davis at no. 13, giving the Texans the nos. 15, 124, 162, and 166 in exchange. In addition to anchoring one of the most dominant defenses in college football history, the 6-foot-6, 341-pound Davis’s testing profile is one of the best (and most absurd) ever. Six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox re-signed with Philadelphia last month on a one-year deal, and Davis could be his natural successor.”
The article continued, Shortly after trading up for Davis, the Eagles acquired Brown from the Titans in exchange for the 18th pick and a third-rounder. Philadelphia reportedly reached terms with Brown on a massive contract extension: a four-year, $100 million pact, including $57 million guaranteed.
I think I can speak for most or all Philly sports fans and say that I went to bed with a smile on my face after last night.
