What Howie Roseman Should Do In The First Round of The NFL Draft

The NFL Draft is coming this Thursday and here at DETV, we are right in the center of Philadelphia Eagles territory. Plus, as an Eagles fan, it’s only right that I talk about the Philadelphia Eagles and the big night they have on Thursday.

When the 2021-2022 Season ended, the Philadelphia Eagles had 3 first-round picks. But then Howie Roseman the general manager of the team traded 2 of those picks to the New Orleans Saints. In the trade, the Saints received two 2022 first-round picks (No. 16 and No. 19) and a 2022 sixth-round pick (No. 194) while the Eagles received a 2022 first-round pick (No. 18), a 2023 first-round pick, a 2024 second-round pick, plus 2022 third-round (No. 101) and seventh-round selections (No. 237). So, it seems like Howie Roseman is preparing himself for the future with this trade now having multiple first picks in next year’s draft. (Could he try to get get Bryce Young?)

In my opinion, I would have kept all three first-round picks but Howie has a plan and gets paid the big bucks for a reason.

That being said we still have two first-round picks in the middle stages of the first round. If I could be Howie Roseman for the first round of the NFL draft, here is what I would do.

With the 15th and 18th overall picks, I would get a wide receiver and linebacker and one of two people I would pick is Jameson Williams of Alabama. According to Pro Football Focus they have the Eagles taking Williams in their mock draft and had this to say.

Jameson Williams Highlights

“A team that is patient with Williams’ recovery from a torn ACL (suffered in the national title game) might end up landing this year’s top receiver. The Eagles have taken a wide receiver in back-to-back years, and they could very well go back in that direction again this year. Head coach Nick Sirianni loves his receivers (he is a former receivers coach), and he’ll have some fun pairing Williams with DeVonta Smith.”

If Williams is not available, another wide receiver Chris Olave from Ohio State University is.

Olave to Philadelphia is one of the most consistent moves you’ll find in mock drafts around the league and as teams prepare to retool their passing games, Jeremiah believes the former Ohio State star and the Eagles make the most sense.

Chris Olave Highlights

In an article from Eagles Wire, there was a conference call with NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah on Thursday previewing the 2022 NFL Draft and the Eagles dominated the bulk of his answers.

The article continued “For Olave, I’ll go with the Philadelphia Eagles. They go back to the wide receiver well for the third year in a row. They’ve got two cracks at it, so I up my odds from that standpoint but I would say I like him with Philadelphia”. WHO’s QOUTE IS THIS!

He’s a fun player to study. I think the reason why you see him married to so many different teams in all these mock drafts is that he fits. He’s a silky-smooth route runner who can do so many different things. He tracks the ball really, really well. He’s incredibly smart. The coaches rave about him. They love him. He just needs to get a little bit stronger. That’s kind of the one knock on Chris.

Now for me, it’s only one choice for a linebacker and that is Nakobe Dean from Georgia. Bleeding Green Nation had an article about Nakobe Dean and his strengths and weaknesses.

Nakobe Dean Hightlights

Strengths: Many compare Dean to Chicago Bears’ linebacker Roquan Smith, another Georgia Bulldog. There is a lot to like about Dean. He’s quick, strong, aggressive, has a great motor, good lateral movement, has shown an ability to cover running backs swinging out of the backfield, can fill and shoot gaps, has what many experts say strong spatial awareness and gets off blocks well when coming forward.

Weaknesses: His height may turn some teams away. He’s proven to be a capable tackler, though at the NFL level, he may need to refine his angles on how he attacks ball carriers. Some experts feel Dean may not be able to cover NFL tight ends due to his height, and because of his size, can he shed the blocks of pulling offensive lineman?

At the end of the day, I am not the GM of the Philadelphia Eagles but I can only hope and pray that Howie Roseman does what I would do and get a Wide Receiver or Linebacker.
