3 Artist To Watchout For At The 2022 Firefly Music Festival

The 10th annual Firefly Music Festival is coming up this year on September 22nd through the 25th 2022 and there are a lot of mixed opinions about this year’s festival.

Some people are happy with the lineup, and some are upset and disappointed.  This year’s lineup has some of music’s crowd favorites like Dua Lipa, Halsey, Green Day, and My Chemical Romance.
I want to talk about three underrated artists who aren’t getting the same shine or love that some big names are getting.

1. Little Simz

@LittleSimz

Let’s talk about the first person on the list, Little Simz, who “some say” dropped one of the best hip-hop/rap albums of 2021 when she released “Sometimes I Might Be an Introvert”. She is from Islington, London, UK so here in the US, she isn’t getting the same buzz as other performers at Firefly.

But in the UK, Little Simz has been making a name for herself for years on the underground scene. Little Sims is more mainstream since she won a Brit Award for Best New Artist. Little Simz is also going on her first North American Tour. She will be performing on May 21st in Philadelphia so if you want to check her out before the Festival, that would be a perfect time.

2. Willow

@willowsmith

Willow is well known due to her parents Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith, and her song “Whip My Hair” but lately Willow has been making a name for herself in the music industry but in a very different way. Her latest album, Lately I Feel Everything, has been in heavy rotation ever since I heard it when it was released last year.

Pitchfork said, “Willow’s fourth solo album continues to unpack her lifelong struggles with the extremes of human emotion, using a trove of pop-rock stylings from nu-metal to pop-punk to somewhat mixed effect.” Pitchfork also gave the album a 6.6 score out of 10. In my opinion, the album is a solid 7 to 7.5 but either way 6.6 is still a pretty good score.

Willow also received a nomination for “Best New Alternative Artist Of The Year” by the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Willow has been on a trajectory to superstardom for quite some time now and she has proven that she’s not going anywhere anytime soon. If you attend FireFly this year, make sure you check out Willow.

3. Princess Nokia

@princessnokia

This could be my own bias, but Princess Nokia is one of my favorite artists at the current moment. I’ve been listening to Princess Nokia since 2016 when she released her mixtape entitled “1992”. The first time I heard the album I said, “WHO IS THIS?”.

I’ve been following her music career ever since. Princess Nokia could be the most versatile artist at Firefly this year. She isn’t the most well-known but she should get some respect for the music she has put out lately. My favorite song by Princess Nokia is “ABC’s of New York”.

She can go from hip-hop, rap, soul, and r&b to pop, and a little alternative rock. If you find yourself at Firefly this year, make sure you check out Princess Nokia, Little Simz, and Willow. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
