University Of Delaware Basketball Breaking Records

For the first time in the University of Delaware’s history, both their Men’s & Women’s Basketball teams are in The NCAA tournament. The women’s team won their CAA tournament when they beat Drexel 63-59 this past Sunday. CAA Player of the Year Jasmine Dickey scored 27 points with 18 rebounds as the Delaware Women’s Basketball team earned their first CAA Championship since 2013 with a 63-59 win at Drexel on Sunday afternoon. Delaware’s Women’s team seeded No. 13, will face No. 4 Maryland (21-8 team), out of the Big Ten Conference.

Delaware will face Maryland in the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday. The game will start at 5 p.m. and air on ESPNU.

This will be the 7th meeting between the two teams with Maryland having won all 6 previous contests. The last match-up was November 17, 2019, when Delaware lost 99-55.

Delaware’s Men’s team will also have a tough task when they play the No. 2 seeded Villanova on Friday in a South Regional 1st Round game in Pittsburgh. The game will start at 2:45 p.m. and will air on CBS.

Delaware is 0-14 all-time against Villanova, losing 78-70 in their last meeting on December 14, 2019. Delaware has earned their first NCAA Tournament trip since 2014 with a win over UNCW, winning the CAA title.

This has been a fantastic year for Delaware’s basketball program as a whole. This is the first time in the University’s history that both the Men’s & Women’s teams are in the NCAA tournament in the same season. The University of Delaware is 1 out of 24 schools with two teams in the NCAA tournament.

The University of Delaware is also 1 out of 5 schools with both teams earning automatic qualification.

There is a slim chance that both teams win their opening-round matchups but what the world has learned in past NCAA tournaments is that anything is possible. Go Blue Hens Go!
