Dr. Terrance Newton Legacy Will Live On
The community is in mourning over the loss of Dr. Terrance Newton, the principal at Warner Elementary School.
According to police “Dr. Terrance Newton was riding his motorcycle on the Old Baltimore Pike west of 273 at about 10:45 p.m. on March 18, 2022, when he attempted to pass a vehicle, ultimately striking a median which caused him to be tossed from his bike while wearing a helmet.”
The outgoing love and support that has poured in from the community has been incredible. You can truly see how much Dr. Newton meant to the community.
Governor John Carney said is a statement, “This is such a heart-wrenching loss for our community. Dr. Newton was everything a school leader should be, and more. He was selfless, dedicated, enthusiastic and cared so deeply about his students and staff. That was clear every time you walked in the front doors of Warner Elementary”.
“I saw his dedication on recent visits to his classrooms. I was inspired by him, and will continue to be, every time I see his students walking to and from school, just a few blocks from my house”.

“He will be greatly missed. Tracey and I are praying for Dr. Newton’s family, his many friends across the City of Wilmington and our state, and the Warner community, during this difficult time”.
Senator Chris Coons released a statement too he said. “I’m heartbroken by the passing of my dear friend, Dr. Terrance Newton. Dr. Newton – or “Newt” as many called him – understood the power and infinite possibilities that education can provide. His own rise from growing up in Wilmington to becoming a Delaware State University Ph.D., and school leader was an inspiration to so many. His intense commitment to helping others, his impish energy, his determination to make a difference, and his cheerful optimism all combined to make him a great and valued community leader.”
Dr. Newton’s impact on Warner Elementary School will forever be felt and his impact on the community will be felt too.
According to wdel.com, “Warner Elementary School’s library and the street that runs in front of its steps will both be named in honor of Dr. Terrance Newton.

Mayor Mike Purzycki and Red Clay Superintendent Dorrell Green announced in a statement they’re planning a ceremony to dedicate both the library and road in honor of the Warner leader, who was involved in a fatal motorcycle crash.”
The best quote that sums ups Dr. Newton’s legacy and impact is from Senator Coons.
“Terrance was a pillar of our community taken too soon. His absence will be felt not just in Red Clay School District, but everywhere across our state where Delawareans young and old sought his counsel and relied on his inspiration and encouragement”.
