DSU Ranks 3rd Best Nationwide Public HBCUs

DELAWARE — Delaware State University is celebrating its title of the third-best public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) by U.S. News and World Reports 2025. This achievement marks the fifth consecutive year that Delaware State University (DSU) has secured a spot in the HBCU top three.

In addition to their ranking amongst public schools, DSU also maintained a strong position across all HBCUs, landing in ninth overall. U.S. News & World Report released the rankings on Tuesday, September 24th, following the White House HBCU conference, where President Joe Biden reaffirmed a $17 billion commitment to HBCUs.

University President Tony Allen celebrated the recognition, attributing the success to Delaware State University’s emphasis on student outcomes. The acknowledgment highlighted graduation, retention, and economic mobility rates for students from low-resource communities, emphasizing positive outcomes. DSU’s continued success is reflected in a momentum of enrollment growth due to the state-sponsored “Inspire Scholarship.” At the same time, DSU expanded its research portfolio to nearly $30 million. These attractions continue to put DSU on the map.

Delaware State University continues to impress in many areas. For example, hosting the National HBCU Philanthropy Symposium and Black Farmers Conference. DSU also leads the nation through training more piolets of color than any other institution.

This is a significant achievement, especially with the start of HBCU week right around the corner in Wilmington. The week will be filled with must-attend events and ample scholarship opportunities for high-school-aged youth intending to study at an HBCU.
