Happy Girl Scouts Leader’s Day

Each year, National Girl Scout Leader’s Day on April 22nd recognizes the thousands of leaders who volunteer their time and share their experiences with youth across the country. Girl Scout volunteer leaders have been positively impacting girls’ lives since the beginning of Girl Scouting in 1912.

These leaders are often beacons for girls as they approach womanhood. They provide a foundation of confidence, experience, respect, and courage that stays with a young woman throughout her lifetime.

Approximately 750,000 adults volunteer their time with the Girl Scouts. Through their leadership, girls gain experience in community service, stewardship, relationship building, and much more. Their leaders offer decision-making skills, build confidence and character, form friendships, and develop leaders for tomorrow.

Because it is National Girl Scout Leader’s Day, I think it is only right we talk about one of the most famous things about the Girl Scouts & that is their Girl Scouts cookies. I know everybody has their preferences of cookies but here are my 3 favorites.

The first cookie is Lemon Ups, they are “crispy lemon cookies baked with motivational messages.” They are reltivly new girl scout cookies. Lemon Ups came out in the 2020 cookie season according to the Girl Scouts, “features baked-in messages inspired by the Girl Scout core mission.” On the cookie that looks like a variety of “I am a … ” statements: I am a go-getter, risk-taker, leader, or innovator.

The next cookie that I like is Samos. As NBC reports, “the Samoa was officially introduced in 1976, although Little Brown Bakers claims they were born as early as 1974. Either way, Samoas would quickly become one of the most popular cookies. In 2010, they made up as much as 19 percent of sales, despite being one of the younger cookies.”

Last but not least my favorite cookie of all time is the Thin Mints. According to a Time Magazine article, “The year 1939 brought the first-ever iteration of the Thin Mint, then called “Cooky-Mints.”

“Thin Mint has had more names than you could imagine,” Parisi says. The different iterations were made by different licensed bakers. (There were 29 different licensed bakers in 1948). According to the Girl Scouts’ historian, the Cooky-Mints name changed to Chocolate Mint to Thin Mint to Cookie Mint to Chocolate Mint to Thin Mints to Thin Mint and finally, back to the plural Thin Mints.”

Thin Mints have been my favorite for years and are my personal favorite. People have different ways to eat their cookies. But my favorite way to eat Thin Mints is to put them in the freezer or refrigerator and eat them while they are cold. Girl Scouts aren’t out selling cookies anymore because the season is over. But if you are still craving cookies you can get them on amazon.com
