Who Is The Real NBA MVP?!
There has been a lot of talk & buzz around the MVP award, should it be Joel Embiid or Nikola Jokic.
But last night to me Joel Embiid cemented his MVP case when he shocked the NBA world by hitting the game-winning 3 in OT. Now the 76ers have a 3-0 lead over the Toronto Raptors.
Embiid made a 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds left in overtime to give the 76ers a 104-101 victory on Wednesday night and a 3-0 lead in their first-round series.
“I’m coming for the sweep, too,” Embiid told rapper Drake as he passed the Raptors’ celebrity fan on his way off the floor.
“I’ll be there,” Drake replied about Game 4, which is set for Saturday afternoon in Toronto.
After 76ers coach Doc Rivers called timeout to save the possession as the shot clock was running down, Embiid took an inbounds pass from Danny Green and hit a turnaround shot from near the sideline before running back to his bench in celebration.
There have been reports and speculation about the MVP award getting leaked and that Nikola Jokic will when the NBA MVP award. Which will be his second MVP award in back-to-back years.
But since last night social media was debating about the MVP. The Joel Embiid supporters were joyous basically saying “This is why he’s the MVP and is leading his team to a 3-0 lead” While Jokic is currently down 3-0 to the Golden State Warriors.
I might be a little biased being a Delaware Blue Coats & Philadelphia Sixers fan but throughout the whole year, Embiid has been the best player in the world. People might say look at the numbers of Jokic they are better than Embiid’s plus has the highest PER ever. But just use the eye test and you can see who has the bigger impact on their team and game.
The votes for the MVP have already been submitted by the voters. The NBA usually announces the winner of the MVP award at the end of June, though this date is by no means set in stone. Last year, Jokic won the award on June 8, while Antetokounmpo got his 2020 trophy on Sept. 18. So, we still have some time to discuss and debate who we would pick as the MVP. But one thing for sure is that this will probably be one of the closest MVP races in quite some time.
