Wilmington Has It’s First Hispanic Police Chief

Wilmington has found there new police chief.

Wilmington Police Department Captain Wilfredo Campos, a 26-year veteran of the force, has been named Police Chief and will replace Robert Tracy when Tracy starts as Police Commissioner of St. Louis next week.

Campos will be the city’s first Hispanic chief. “The announcement of Campos’ new position, which takes effect immediately, came simultaneously from the city and its police department Thursday morning. The emailed news releases also said Campos had appointed two new inspectors: department veterans Anthony Bowers and Matthew Hall.”

According to WDEL.com, “It is truly a blessing and an honor to have the opportunity to continue serving the residents of Wilmington in this new role as Police Chief and to be able to lead our brave and dedicated police officers and civilians that make up the Wilmington Department of Police family,” Campos said. “I thank my entire family, our many friends, current and former police officers, and all of the people who have provided support and guidance to me throughout the years to make this day possible.”

Chief Campos will take over for Robert Tracy who is leaving with a low number of murders which dropped from 40 in 2021 to 17 in 2022, a 58% decline. and Shootings dropped 30%.
