30th Annual People’s Fest Tribute Celebration

WILMINGTON, Del. — The Harriet Tubman Park was entranced with good vibes last Saturday, August 31st. Hundreds of people traveled from around the northeast to join together for the 30th Annual People’s Fest Bob Marley Tribute Celebration. The stage lineup featured the local favorite band Spokey Speaky, Virgin Island reggae songstress Reemah, and dynamite Sister Nancy.

Bob Marley lived and worked in Wilmington in the 1960s and 1970s. Thirty years ago, Marley’s mother asked his friends Ibis and Genny Pitts to organize a concert in his honor. Since then, the festival has grown from a local tribute into a significant cultural event that attracts performers and visitors from around the globe.

The vast performances and the chill community left many attendees amazed. Photographer Lilho Hollins said she spent the day trying to capture the good vibes in photographs. “It was just amazing…..I hope I did,” she told DETV. The event volunteers have worked with the Pitts family for years, drawn by the good music and good vibes. When asked why they continue volunteering at the People’s Fest, Dawn Isaac simply said, “The energy is just great,” which is a perfect way to describe the 30th annual celebration.
