Delaware Housing Advocates Push for $100 Million in State Funding
Despite ongoing new construction, Delaware continues to face an affordable housing crisis. A coalition of housing advocates is calling for 1% of the state budget—up to $100 million—to be allocated toward affordable housing initiatives.
Groups leading the effort include the Delaware Association of Realtors, Home Builders Association of Delaware, Housing Alliance Delaware, and the Delaware Affordable Housing Coalition. They cite rising costs and restrictive zoning laws as major barriers to building affordable housing units.
A spokesperson for the Delaware Association of Realtors emphasized the need for more incentives to encourage development, as the state faces a shortage of over 20,000 affordable units. Advocates argue that increased funding would help working families find stable housing and reduce homelessness across the state.
