Only 22% of Delaware Makes Decisions for the Whole State | Delaware Primary Election Recap

DETV's The Agenda

WILMINGTON, Del. — Last night, The Agenda host Kerwin Gaines delivered a full Delaware Primary Election recap. The episode covers this year’s voter turnout, the reasons behind the low numbers, and the importance of boosting participation in future elections. Only 22% of registered voters make the decisions for the whole state.

Kerwin also highlights some shocking Delaware statistics that impact voters. From ranking 45th in education to 25th in healthcare, he urges people to focus on our state’s progress. One statistic that caused alarm was about the literacy rates in Delaware. According to the Delaware Literacy Alliance, 20.3% of adults have low literacy skills and 129,649 adults in Delaware read below a third-grade level. Surprisingly, more adults in Delaware can not read above a third-grade level than went out to vote in this year’s Primary Election — only 124,763 Delawareans voted in the election. Kerwin discusses these shocking facts about Delaware and more in this episode.

Afterwards, the recap concludes with a review of key primary winners, including Sarah McBride (the Democratic Representative in Congress candidate), Matt Meyer (the Democratic Governor candidate), and others.
