Both University of Delaware Teams Go Down In The NCAA Tournament

Its looks like both of President Joe Biden’s NCAA Tournament Brackets were busted on Friday afternoon when the University of Delaware Men’s & Women’s team lost the opening games in their respective games.

President Biden filled out his bracket before the NCAA tournaments started and tweeted out. “I’m proud of all the athletes competing in this year’s NCAA tournament. But at the end of the day, I’m a @UDelaware guy. Go Blue Hens!”

The Men’s team lost to Villanova 80-60. The Women’s team lost to Maryland 102-71.
The Blue Hens Men’s team started off strong against Villanova who were the No. 6 team in the nation in the AP poll.

Delaware went up 15-8, and still led 19-14 when Dylan Painter scored from the low post against his former team with 8:46 left in the first half. But that is the most that the Blue Hens could stretch the lead.

Villanova went on an 8-0 run to end the first half going up 35-25. As the second half continued, Villanova showed why they are No. 6 in the AP Poll.

“Delaware never dented Villanova’s hopes because it couldn’t match the Wildcats’ belated but brutally consequential 13-for-28 3-point aim.”

Villanova advanced on to Sunday’s round-of-32 and defeated No. 7-seed Ohio State 71-61, and will now face the number 11 seed Michigan this coming Thursday.

On to the Blue Hens Women’s team the 2-time CAA Player Of The Year proved why she earned those honors once again.

Jasmine Dickey had 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds despite her efforts Maryland was just too much to handle.

“All five of Maryland’s starters finished in double figures in points. Junior point guard Ashley Owusu led the way with 24 points and was joined by junior shooting guard Diamond Miller with 23 points, graduate student shooting guard Katie Benzan with 17 points, sophomore power forward Angel Reese with 15 points, and graduate student power forward Chloe Bibby with 11 points.”

Maryland as a whole shot over 60% from the field.

As a whole it has been a great year for Delaware basketball, both teams made it to the NCAA tournament which has never happened in school history. Delaware has bright young stars to build off of and returning upperclassmen to boot. It was a disappointing Friday afternoon for the school but a lesson learned that can carry on to the future.
